Jonah

September 6

(Read Jonah 2)

The engulfing waters threatened me,

the deep surrounded me;

seaweed was wrapped around my head.

To the roots of the mountains I sank down;

 the earth beneath barred me in forever.

But you, Lord my God,

brought my life up from the pit.

 Jonah 2:5-6

Until he went in the water, Jonah was determined to do his own thing. When he was helplessly sinking to a sure death, God saved him!  Only then, did Jonah finally acknowledge that God was in control. As with Jonah, when our will gets in the way of God’s will, we always find out God’s will is stronger. Isaiah 14:24 tells us plainly The Lord Almighty has sworn, “Surely, as I have planned, so it will be and as I have purposed, so it will happen.” We must realize that whatever God has purposed is going to happen. Thankfully, He does not reject us when we stray, He corrects our actions.  In Jonah’s case, he ended up in the belly of a whale as the result of his open defiance to the will of God.  Living in His will often results in our lives running much smoother though that is not guaranteed.  Regardless, our awesome God is in control and He prefers to achieve His will through us. What a blessing it is to us to be used by the Creator of the universe to accomplish His plan!

What did you hear?

What do you think?

What will you do?

Now talk to God…
